No. 15 Women’s Water Polo Splits Day One of Bucknell Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 15 women's water polo team (5-1) split day one of action at the Bucknell Invite. In its first match of the day, the Crimson defeated LIU 11-8, before falling to No. 20 Wagner 12-8.

Junior Quinne Pursell led the Crimson in scoring with four goals on the day, followed closely by sophomore Evan Tingler who tallied three. Senior captain Sofia Carrera-Justiz recorded three assists, while junior Olivia Price had three steals. In net, sophomore Zoe Banks totaled 11 saves, one assist and four steals through six quarters of play and first-year Alexis Kieckhafer had four saves and two assists in two quarters against LIU.

In its first ever matchup against LIU, the Crimson jumped out to an early 8-2 lead entering the half thanks to a five-goal first quarter, with sophomore goalie Zoe Banks holding the Sharks scoreless. Harvard would slow down the pace for the second half of the match, only netting three goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth. However, Harvard limited LIU to only six goals of its own in the second half, allowing the Crimson to hold on for the 11-8 victory.

Facing Wagner for the second weekend in a row, the Crimson struggled with foul trouble early, getting called for five ejections in the first quarter alone. Although Harvard would keep the match tied at two heading into the second, the Seahawks would outscore the Crimson 4-1 to take the 6-3 lead into the half. Harvard would make a late push in the fourth, scoring three goals, but Wagner would ultimately hold on for the 12-8 victory.
