DUSSELDORF, Germany – Following a productive stint at the national team camp in January, sophomore Linda Liedel of the women's soccer team has earned a selection to the Germany under-19 national team for the La Manga Tournament in Spain, running Feb. 26-March 6. Liedel is the only United States-based player to earn the call for Germany.
Germany's 24-player under-19 team will play three matches in Spain, which will be held at La Manga Club Resort. The tournament opens against the United States on March 1, continues with Denmark March 3, and concludes against Norway March 5. The tournament is the precursor to qualifying games in April for the European championships.
Liedel is no stranger to the national team system, having previously been selected to U-19, U-16 and U-15 national teams. The Mainz, Germany native was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in 2018, starting all 12 of her appearances along the back line. She has scored two goals in her career, including one game-winner.
Harvard posted a 7-7-1 mark in 2018, including a 4-2-1 mark in Ivy action, while posting six shutouts.
