Skiing Welcomes Class of 2024

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Harvard ski team has announced the addition of four newcomers in the Class of 2024. The Crimson will welcome Laura Appleby, Mads Groeholdt, Elsie Halvorsen and Matthew Ryan. Both the alpine and nordic teams are bringing in one male and one female athlete to add to their 2020-21 squads.

Chris City, the Paul J. Finnegan Family Head Coach for Harvard Skiing (Nordic) and Scott MacPherson, the Paul J. Finnegan Family Head Coach for Harvard Skiing (Alpine), spoke on their excitment for the incoming class:

"I'm excited to have Mads and Laura join us in the fall," said City. "Laura is a talented sprinter with excellent national-level junior results in that discipline. We'll be looking for her to bring her speed to the longer-distance races in EISA as well. Mads has had top-level results on the very-highly competitive Norwegian juniors circuit. Looking ahead, I expect he will be an integral part of a very strong Harvard men's team going into next season. Both Mads and Laura are inquisitive students with engaging outlooks on life, school, and sports. They'll fit in wonderfully with our team."

"I am thrilled to welcome Elsie and Matt to our alpine team," said MacPherson. "Both bring tremendous experience and consistency to our squad. In particular, their international race experience. Elsie is coming off of a post graduate year at her home program in Steamboat Springs, Colo. Matt is a senior at Waterville Valley Academy and will be joining his older sister, Emma, a rising junior on our team."

The Crimson heads into the new season after a successful 2019-20 campaign, including three NCAA Championship qualifiers and several top-10 finishes. The team had 21 athletes named to the USCSCA All-Academic team, the most in the nation.
