Skiing Completes Opening Weekend at Bates Carnival

Hampton earned her fourth top-15 finish of her career (Gil Talbot).

Newry/Waterville, Maine. – The Harvard skiing team wrapped up its opening weekend season at the Bates Carnival in Maine, finishing in 10th place amongst the 17-team field.

Rachel Hampton earned the best place for Harvard over the weekend, finishing 15th overall in the 1.5K for the second-straight year at the Bates Carnival, clocking in with a time of 4:18.04. Hanna Barnes crossed the finish line seconds later with with a time of 4:24.08, earning a career-best place at 19th overall.

In the men's 1.5K, Devlin Shea earned a spot in the top-20, finishing in 18th with a time of 3:36.93. Haakon Sigurslid earned his first-career top-30 finish as he placed 28th with a time 3:40.86. Soren Anderson took 53rd, clocking at 3:47.10.

Kelly Steeves earned the top spot for the Crimson in the giant slalom, finishing 30th with a time of 1:15.22. Molly Leavens made her collegiate debut with a time of 12:02:34, good for No. 44 overall.

In the slalom, Steeves posted the top finish for Harvard once again, earning the No. 29 spot with a time of 2:14.80. Samantha Udolf took the No. 37 spot at 2:22.88, while Kaitlyn Gibson followed two places later at 2:24.16. Pieter Weemaes was the lone representative for the Crimson on the men's side, finishing 41st with a time of 2:02.49.

In the men's 10K FS, Sigurslid earned the No. 40 spot with a time of 24:12.9. Ian Meyer ticked in a 24:20.2 to take 43rd and Liam Mulshine grabbed 47th with a time of 24:31.6.

On the women's side, Hampton posted another strong showing in the 5K FS, finishing 23rd overall with a time of 13:00.8 Nina Armstrong clocked in at 13:09.6 to take 31st and Annie Harvieux finished 35th at 13:15.3.

Harvard will return to action next weekend at the Colby Carnival Jan. 22-24.
