Hampton, Maifeld-Carucci Earn Spots at NCAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Rachel Hampton and senior Akeo Maifeld-Carucci, both of the Harvard nordic ski team, earned spots at the NCAA Championships, it was announced Monday.

The NCAA Championships will be held in Lake Placid, New York at Mt. Van Hoevenberg and Whiteface Mt. The racing will begin March 11 and continue through March 14.

Both skiers wrapped their consistently strong seasons with top-15 finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships over the weekend.

Maifeld-Carucci posted a time of 1:02.04 in the 20K classic, while Hampton stopped the clock in 55:47.3 in the 15K to each rank 14th.

To start the season, Maifeld-Carucci became the first nordic skier to earn a spot on the podium at an event since 2004, placing second in the 10K FS at the Bates Carnival. Among Hampton's highlights was a near top-10 finish in the 10K at the UVM Carnival, clocking a time of 33:48.8.
