STOWE, Vt. – A pair of top-10 finishes for senior Akeo Maifeld-Carucci and two top-15 finishes for sophomore Rachel Hampton highlighted the Harvard skiing team's ninth-place finish at the UVM Carnival over the weekend.
Maifeld-Carucci's best showing came in the 10K freestyle, where the Bozeman, Montana native posted a time of 25:46.2. He just missed the podium in a photo finish, as the No. 3 skiier crossed just 0.2 of a second ahead of Maifeld-Carucci. In the 15K event, the senior crossed in 42:29.8 to rank eighth overall.
Rooke Connor Green outpaced his bib slot by 12 spots to rank No. 44 in the 15K (45:37.8). Green also crossed in 27:42.3 in the 10K, just over a second ahead of sophomore Devlin Shea (27:43.5), who finished 47th.
On the women's side, Hampton nearly edged her way into the top-10, clocking a time of 33:48.8 in the 10K classic. Hampton was just one second behind the UVM skier. Junior Hanna Barnes posted a 44th place showing with a time of 36:32.2.
In the 5K, Hampton registered another top-15 showing, crossing the finish line in 15:10.0 to take 15th. Again, close behind the pack, Hampton was 0.7 of a second away from the 12th-place finisher. Junior Annie Harvieux posted an outstanding run with a time of 15:28.2 to finish No. 22.
In the alpine events, Kelly Steeves finished No. 23 in the giant slalom (2:18.59) and No. 27 in the slalom (2:13.63). Junior Jack Stobierski clocked a run of 2:10.98 to finish 30th overall.
The Crimson will be back in Vermont next weekend for the St. Michael's Carnival.
