Ted Donato Named Assistant Coach on 2021 U.S. National Junior Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --
USA Hockey today announced that Ted Donato will serve as an assistant coach for the 2021 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2020 – Jan. 5, 2021 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta. Donato will assist Nate Leaman head men's ice hockey coach at Providence College, who was previously announced as head coach of the 2021 U.S. National Junior Team.

Donato is making his first appearance on the coaching staff of a U.S. National Junior Team, and has represented the United States as a player on several occasions. The Scituate, Mass. native played on the 1988 U.S. National Junior Team in Moscow and was also a member of Team USA in the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, France. In addition, Donato played in three IIHF Men's World Championships, serving as captain in 1997 and also representing the U.S. at the event in 1999 and 2002.

Donato has compiled a long list of accomplishments as head coach of the Crimson. The former Harvard captain has guided Harvard to four ECAC Hockey titles and three Ivy League championships, claimed six NCAA Tournament berths, coached 13 All-Americans and 16 National Hockey Leaguers. Donato won an NCAA Championship as a Harvard player in 1989 and enjoyed a 13-year NHL career.
